The Eucalyptus (globulus) tree is iconic to Australia. But you can find it all over the world. The Aborigines (the first people who lived in Australia) used it in the dry outback. They chewed the roots, which hold a large amount of water. They also drank eucalyptus tea to treat a fever. As this use spread, eucalyptus became known as Australian fever tea.
The oil that comes from the leaves has been used in medicine since at least 1788. Till today, the Eucalyptus globulus Essential Oil is probably most well known for its wonderful benefits for respiratory applications.
Eucalyptus oil has a minty, vibrant and refreshing aroma and is a common ingredient used in cold care products, chest salves and inhalants to help clear breathing and relieve cold symptoms.
It also has powerful antiseptic and analgesic properties that can be used to treat wounds, infections, and painful inflammation of the muscles that lead to muscle soreness.
The fresh aroma of menthol invigorates the senses and eliminates sluggishness and mental fatigue. It also has calming effects.

Aromatherapy for Congestion
Ingredients
- Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- Rosemary Essential Oil
- WaterDirections
- Boil water in a large saucepan.
- Add the heated water to a medium to large size heat-safe bowl and add 5 to 10 drops each of eucalyptus globulus and rosemary oil.
- Place a towel over the top of your head and the bowl and inhale the vapors for a few minutes.
If steam inhalation feels uncomfortable, you can get a similar effect by placing a few drops of eucalyptus and rosemary oil in your hot shower. The oils will naturally rise with the heat of the water, entering your nose, throat, and lungs for an invigorating lift. You can replace rosemary oil with peppermint oil if you prefer.
Shower Steam Inhalation
Make your shower experience even more relaxing. Place two drops Eucalyptus oil directly onto the shower floor while you are showering. The steam from the water will create a natural diffuser for the Eucalyptus oil, leaving you with a clear, invigorated feeling.
Floor Cleaner
Eucalyptus is a natural grease buster. Keep floors clean and germ-free by adding 15 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil to a bucket of hot water and get mopping.
Bin Refresher
Say goodbye to smelly bins. The pungent scent of Eucalyptus has some serious staying power and can counterbalance strong odours. Remove the bin bag and sprinkle 2 drops of Eucalyptus oil in the bottom of the bin. Once it’s dry, replace the bag and let this odour-eater get to work.
